Location

Departing from Auckland and spread out over two days, you'll take in all the highlights of each of these famed New Zealand sightseeing spots; walk through the spots Peter Jackson used as the base for Hobbiton from the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies; follow it up with a tour and boat ride combination to explore the wonders of the Waitomo Glow Worm caves with their many limestone formations and magical Glow Worm Grotto
Then cap it all off on the second day with an epic land-and-sea based adventure to the stunning, wildlife-rich Bay of Islands, taking in the likes of the Cape Brett Peninsula, the Cape Brett Lighthouse and - of course - the iconic Hole in the Rock (which you may even be able to cruise through!) Keep your eyes peeled for marine life such as dolphins, whales and more before heading back to Auckland at the end of the day

Highlights
- Discover the real Middle-earth as seen in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies with this full day tour including the world famous Waitomo Caves
- Enjoy a 45-minute small group guided tour through the Waitomo Glowworm Caves with their incredible stalactites, stalagmites and other limestone formations
- End the tour with a boat ride through the Glowworm Grotto – an enchanting underground cavern lit up by thousands of tiny glowworms
- Following the tour you will be served a picnic-style lunch (vegetarian and other dietary options available on request) en route to Rotorua, where you will transfer to the Hobbiton tour bus for a short but scenic drive across the Kaimai Ranges to Matamata
- Learn how this picturesque 1,250 acre farm was transformed into The Shire from Middle-earth and walk through Hobbiton village. Your guide will show you Hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Inn, the Mill and many other structures from the movies, and reveal some secrets about how the movie magic was made
- After a short stop in Matamata township, you'll board the GreatSights coach for the final part of the day as we return to Auckland
